What is the organization formerly known as CAMHCA?

Senate Bill (SB) 788 was signed by the Governor in October 2009 making California the 50th state to License Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC). Professional Counselors hold different titles throughout our nation, some are called Mental Health Counselors or Professional Counselor, but all come under the Legal and Ethical Codes of the American Mental Health Counselor Association (AMHCA) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) who provides testing for many states licensing process.

I invite you to get involved with the organization formerly known as CAMHCA. With your active participation, we can do even more to enhance our profession and the quality of the services that we deliver. I want this website to serve as a resource for both clinicians and the general public.

If you are a potential Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California and are not a member of the organization formerly known as CAMHCA, I invite you to join us NOW. You can be involved in numerous ways-attending a board meeting (face to face or via telephone or streaming video), participation as a board member, involvement in a committee, or by giving your valuable input. The meeting schedule is listed under Membership and I’m currently working on the best, most economical way for us to connect.

Many years ago (over 30), my supervisor told me I had to join my professional association to be a “real” professional. And you know, he was right! Join us now during this critical start-up phase to help shape your professional association.
